Joining the Steamboat Springs Rotary Club
Our club has 87 active members. We meet at noon every Tuesday at the Steamboat Grand on Mt. Werner Circle. Rotarians are active in their community, service-oriented and committed to “Service Above Self.” Becoming a Rotarian involves strong dedication to these values and principles.
Applicants must have been a full-time resident of Routt County for at least one year, or have attended six meetings of the club as a guest. Those who meet the residency requirement are still obligated to attend four meetings as a guest before applying for membership. If the applicant is currently a member of another Rotary Club, then he/she need only attend three meetings prior to submitting the application.
Sponsorship from two members of the club is a necessary prerequisite in the application. These sponsors also commit themselves to the support and mentoring of the new member.
After the application is received, the applicant and the sponsors will meet with a member of the Membership Committee to review the time and financial obligations of membership. A typical cost to members is about $1,500 a year, which includes dues, weekly luncheon charges and participation in several fund-raising events.
Following this meeting, those wishing to pursue membership shall complete all necessary forms which are submitted to the Club’s Board of Directors at the next regularly scheduled Board meeting (normally the 2nd Monday of the month).
If the Board accepts the application the applicant’s name is “read” at the next two Tuesday luncheon meetings. This allows current members an opportunity to comment, if so desired, on the potential member’s application. If there are no objections a membership induction is scheduled
If an objection is received in writing from a member, a formal procedure is initiated to review the objection and make a final decision on the application. Prior membership in another Rotary Club does not necessarily exempt the applicant from the application procedure or the member obligations that are required.
