How many scholarships are available? It is the intention of this club to offer multiple scholarships each year. There will be some scholarships for those who plan to study an academic subject, and some scholarships for those who plan to enter a vocational program. The total number may change from year to year depending on funding available and applications received.
How much is each scholarship worth? The amount of the scholarships will range from $500 to $2,500 each, to be determined by the Rotary Scholarship Committee.
Who is eligible? Any resident of Routt County, in the year the he/she graduates from high school, who plans to further her/his education through a college, university or vocational school.
What are the criteria?
1. Leadership: This will be determined by the awards the applicant has received, as well as in which organizations and activities the applicant has been involved and held leadership positions.
2. Need: Applicants are asked some questions on the application to help ascertain what their financial status is, other obligations such as siblings in college, and what other financial resources are available to the student.
3. Focus of Educational Plans: Applicants should have both short term and long term plans, have some idea of what school he/she will attend and what the probable cost will be to attend this school. Rationality and probability of success will be considered.
4. Community Service: What the applicant has done to help others and/or to improve the community will be considered.
5. Scholastic Achievement: For those who plan to study in an academic institution, the grade point average and class standing will be very important. For applicants for a vocational scholarship, efforts towards earning good grades will be carefully considered.
6. Character and Demeanor: The letters of reference will be considered very strongly in making this evaluation.
7. Self-help: What the student has done to earn money and to save for an education will be considered. In addition, future plans for money will also be important.
